This morning for nutrition class our daughter and I whipped up a delicious and nutritious smoothie that we call POWERHOUSE GREEN DRINK SMOOTHIE. We thought that we would share it with you today. To watch the videos that go along with this recipe, please visit our Facebook page.
POWERHOUSE GREEN DRINK SMOOTHIE
Green Drink Base:
Fill blender half full of Kale leaves, taking the leaves off the stem. Then fill the remaining half of the blender with loose-leaf lettuce. Fill 3/4 full with distilled water and blend on high for 3-5 minutes. Once you have finish blending the mixture will separate, with the pulp floating on top. You will want to strain the green drink into a pitcher at this point. You can use a coffee filter, cheese cloth or likewise. Once strained you can pour into a glass and sip or refrigerate for 24 hours. For this recipe, we will be using it as our smoothie base. Rise out your blender throughly before moving onto step two.
Powerhouse Green Drink Smoothie:
2 Bananas, cut in half
1 C. Blueberries
2 Avocados, halved and scooped
1 Zucchini, peeled and sliced
1 Lemon, juiced
Green Drink Base
Place bananas, blueberries (we keep these two things on hand in the freezer), avocado, zucchini and juice of one lemon in blender. Fill 1/2 full with green drink base. Blend on high for 2 minutes or until smooth. Serve in pretty classes with lemon wheel garish. Enjoy!
